1983 विश्व कप विजेता टीम के सदस्य रहे पूर्व क्रिकेटर यशपाल शर्मा का मंगलवार को हार्ट अटैक से निधन हो गया है। 66 वर्ष की आयु में दिग्गज खिलाड़ी ने अपनी अंतिम सांसें लीं।
66 वर्षीय यशपाल शर्मा भारतीय क्रिकेट का एक बड़ा नाम रहे। उन्होंने टीम इंडिया के लिए 37 टेस्ट मैच खेले और 33.45 की बढ़िया औसत के साथ 1606 रन बनाने में सफल रहे। 59 टेस्ट पारियों में उन्होंने दो शतक और 9 अर्धशतक भी जमाए और उनका सबसे बढ़िया प्रदर्शन 140 रन रहा। वहीं, 42 एकदिवसीय मैचों में उनके बल्ले से 28.48 की औसत के साथ 883 रन देखने को मिले। 40 वनडे पारियों में यशपाल शर्मा ने चार अर्धशतक लगाए।

यशपाल शर्मा का निधन वाकई में भारतीय क्रिकेट के लिए एक बड़ी क्षति है।
यशपाल शर्मा ने भारत के लिए अपना टेस्ट डेब्यू साल 1979 में इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ लॉर्ड्स के मैदान पर किया था, जबकि अंतिम टेस्ट 1983 में खेला था।
1983 के विश्व कप में वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ पहले ही मैच में उन्होंने शानदार 89 रनों की पारी खेली थी और टीम इंडिया की जीत में एक अहम किरदार निभाया था। इसके अलावा सेमीफाइनल में इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ भी यशपाल शर्मा ने 61 रनों की उम्दा पारी खेल भारत को फाइनल का टिकट दिलाने में एक अहम भूमिका अदा की थी।
